| | Greetings 4,870 El Sayulero Readers, October is here, and with it, the anticipation of another season ahead - friends arriving back in town; businesses re-opening their doors; and more people out on the streets each day. North-end favorite "Tropical House" re-opened this week in the lovely courtyard space that was once home to "A Bicyclette," and rumor has it that our fave French restaurateurs are also busy setting up shop in a prime new spot downtown. Last week's call for rain was answered in spades, with a very wet weekend delivering another 5 or so inches to our little corner of paradise (thanks to www.sanpanchoweather.com for the stats!).
Mike's article below tells you about the big rains we had and our interview this week is with a true Sayulita "floor-born" resident. Be sure to join our neighbors to the north in celebrating San Pancho Days all weekend! Festivities include a carnival, parade, live music, dance performances, and more!
My summer loves this week? Keeping cool(ish) in the shady oasis of mi casa; snacking on frozen bananas; and girls' nights galore.

Ya llegó el mes de octubre, y con ese, el anticipación de la temporada que viene - amigos regresando al pueblo; negocios abriendo sus puertas de nuevo; y mas gente en las calles cada día. Un restaurante favorito del norte, "Tropical House," abrió esta semana en su nuevo ubicación donde estaba "A Bicyclette," y hay un rumor que las francesas de Bicyclette estan bien ocupados preparando su nuevo espacio en el centro. Despues del pedido para lluvias del viernes pasada, tuvimos una fin de semana bien mojada, recibiendo otra 5 pulgadas de lluvia para nuestra esquinita del paraiso (¡gracias awww.sanpanchoweather.com por las estadísticas!)
El articulo abajo de Mike cuenta sobre las lluvias grandes que tuvimos, y la entrevista esta semana es con un residente verdadero de Sayulito "nacido en el piso". ¡No olvidese a juntar con nuestros vecinos al norte para celebrar Los Días San Pancho esta fin de semana! Los festividades incluyen un carnaval, desfila, musica en vivo, danza, y mas!

 Early this week, Sayulita was hit with heavy rainstorms resulting in a dazzling lightning show and booming thunder. The rain on the north end of town caused a transformer to blow out causing a power outage on Monday which lasted from 7:30am until approximately 6pm. The river also reached its highest level yet this season. There were some roads that flooded, including a portion of Ave. Revolucion as you come into the village, and a block of Calle Manuel Navarrete between Calle Pelicanos and Calle Playa Azul along the sports field.
 While speaking with Sayulita Water Commission Office Manager Imelda Guerrero Tapia (pictured), she explained that the current rains have made a considerable contribution to the Sayulita water sheds. She also explains that the sheds are almost to capacity at this point and she has no doubt about the water supply being completely at capacity and ready for the up-coming season. According to the annual statistics, September is the month Sayulita receives the most rain during the year. This off-season, the rainfall hasn't been as plentiful as in past years, but with Septmeber coming to a close and October as the second wettest month, there is plenty of time to make up for it.
Sigue Cayendo la Lluvia en Sayulita
 A principios de esta semana, Sayulita fue golpeado con lluvias torrenciales que resultaron en un deslumbrante espectaculo de rayos y truenos. La lluvia en el extremo norte de la ciudad provoco que un transformador explotara, causando un apagon el lunes, que duro desde las 7:30 am hasta aproximadamente las 6 pm. Ademas, el rio alcanzo su nivel mas alto de esta temporada. Hubo algunos momentos en que se inundaron las calles, incluyendo una porcion de Avenida Revolucion en la entrada al pueblo y un bloque de la calle Manuel Navarrete, entre la calle Pelicanos y la calle Playa Azul a lo largo del campo de de
ortes.
 Mientras hablaba con la gerente de la oficina de la Comision de Agua de Sayulita Imelda Guerrero Tapia, ella explico que las recientes lluvias han contribuido mucho a llenar considerable las reservas de agua de Sayulita. Tambien explico que los contenedores estan casi a su capacidad en este momento y entonces no tiene ninguna duda que el agua acumulado durara sin problema para la temporada alta. Segun las estadisticas anuales, septiembre es el mes en que Sayulita recibe la mayor cantidad de lluvia durante el ano. Durante esta temporada baja las lluvias no han sido tan abundantes como en anos anteriores, pero como septiembre ya llego a su fin y octubre es el segundo mas lluvioso, hay bastante tiempo todavia para registrar mas precipitacion.

Spay and Neuter Clinic Next Week
 To complement their weekly free spay and neuter program, SayulitAnimals will be holding a spay and neuter campaign from October 6th-10th. Along with their full-time veterinarians Marco and Paola, Yolanda Hernandez from Mexico City will be joining the efforts and adding her expertise. With her added hands, the number of surgeries performed per day can be doubled. There are various ways that the general community can also support the campaign and help things along. By bringing in pets, street dogs, and feral cats to be operated, the overpopulation and suffering of Sayulita's animals can be reduced. SayulitAnimals is also looking for volunteers to help with surgery preparation, recovery care, and the reception of animals. Another option for helping out is to donate food for the hardworking vets and volunteers who will be so busy they will barely have time to eat! Or by contributing just $250 pesos, you can sponsor the sterilization of an animal and help save dozens of unwanted litters from abandonment.

Clinica de Esterilizacion en SayulitAnimals Esta Semana
 Para complementar su programa semanal de esterilizaciones gratuitas, SayulitAnimals organizara una campana adicional para la esterilizacion este 6 a 10 de octubre. En conjunto con los veterinarios de SayulitAnimals Marco y Paola, la veterinaria Yolanda Hernandez de Ciudad de Mexico se juntara su unira a los esfuerzos para agregar sus conocimientos. Con sus manos adicionales, el numero de operaciones realizadas por dia se puede llegar al doble de lo normal. Hay varias maneras en que la comunidad en general tambien puede apoyar la campana y facilitar los esfuerzos. Al traer a sus mascotas, o bien perros y gatos callejeros, para operarse, la sobrepoblacion y sufrimiento de los animales de Sayulita puede ser reducida. SayulitAnimals tambien busca voluntarios para ayudar con la preparacion para las cirujias, la asistencia en recuperacion, y en la recepcion de los animales. Otra opcion para ayudar es donar comida para los veterinarios y voluntarios trabajadores quienes van a estar tan ocupados que siquiera van a tener tiempo para comer! O al contribuir solo $250 pesos, puedes patrocinar la esterizilacion de un animal y ayudar salvar del abandono docenas de crias no deseadas.

3. Born in Sayulita? Yes, I was actually born on the floor of my parents' house in Sayulita and I am the only sibling in my family who was born here.
3. Nació en Sayulita? Si, de hecho naci en el piso de la casa de mis padres aqui en Sayulita y soy el unico de los hermanos en mi familia que nacio aqui.
4. Education level: I actually had just finished Elementary School when I met my wife and soon after we were married.

5. Family history & information? My mother is Martha Alvarez Ramos and is 59 years old. My father passed away 15 years ago and his name was Manuel Guerrero Robles. I am married to my wife of 17 years, Maria Janet Gallegos Rodriguez who is 30 years old. We were married when I was 15 and she was 13 and we are still happily married. Our children include our oldest son Fernando Alexis Guerrero Gallegos who is 14 years old and attends the public Junior High, our daughter Martha Lisbeth Guerrero Gallegos who is 10 years old, and our youngest son Manuel Guerrero Robles who is 9. The last two attend the public Elementary school here in Sayulita. My wife and I follow Mexican tradition giving our family names to our children.
5. Historia familiar? Mi madre es Martha Alvarez Ramos, tiene 59 años. Mi padre murió hace 15 años y se llamaba Manuel Guerrero Robles. Estoy casado con mi esposa desde hace 17 años, Miriam Janet Gallegos Rodríguez y tiene 30. Nos casamos cuando yo tenía 15 y ella 13 y todavía estamos felizmente casados. Nuestros hijos son Fernando Alexis Guerrero Gallegos de 14 y va a la secundaria publica, mi hija Martha Lisbeth Guerrero Gallegos de 10 y Manuel Guerrero Robles de 9, que van a la primaria. Mi esposa y yo seguimos la tradición mexicana de darles los nombres de nuestros familiares a nuestros hijos.
6. What is your favorite food? I love everything! A lot of my friends order food and ask, "please no this or no that". I love all fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish. My favorites overall has to be fresh shrimp ceviche, grilled fish, beef stock and menudo.
6. Cual es tu comida favorita? Me encanta toda la comida! Muchos de mis amigos ordenan comida y piden "sin esto o sin aquello". Me encantan todas las frutas, las verduras, la carne y el pescado. Mis favoritos por encima de todos son ceviche de camarón fresco, pescado asado, caldo de res y menudo.
7. Employment/business history? I have always had a passion for construction. I began apprenticing at the age of 14. I studied under different local builders on how to build a home, lay the tile, paint, landscape and everything else associated with the process. When I turned 18, I broke off and started my own team of builders. We have worked on a considerable amount of successful projects including the re-modeling of the local church in the town plaza, Abel Avalos' new home and office on the corner of Miramar and Revolucion, Casa Allegre at the entrance to town as well as many others. 7. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación? Siempre he tenido una pasión por la construcción. Comencé como aprendiz a la edad de 14. Estudie con diferentes "maistros" constructores locales, como construir una casa, colocar azulejo, pintar, jardinería y todo lo demás asociado con el proceso de construcción. Cuando cumplí 18, me salí de trabajar y comencé mi propio negocio de construcción. Hemos trabajado en una gran cantidad de proyectos exitosos, incluyendo la remodelación de la Iglesia local en la plaza del pueblo, la nueva casa del ingeniero Abel Avalos en la esquina de Miramar y Revolución, Casa Alegre en la entrada del pueblo así como muchas otras. 8. What is your favorite part of living in Sayulita? I just really enjoy seeing my kids grow up where my wife and I did and spending time with all of them. I also just like that small town home feeling and being able to recognize and talk with the majority of people when I walk around town.
8. Que cosa te gusta mas de vivir en Sayulita? Yo nomás disfruto ver a mis hijos crecer donde mi esposa y yo crecimos, además de pasar mi tiempo con todos ellos. También me gusta el sentido de hogar del pueblo chiquito y ser capaz de reconocer y hablar con la mayoría de la gente cuando camino en el pueblo.
 9. How do you feel about education in Sayulita? On a whole I am a big defender of public education here in Sayulita. I feel the teachers do an outstanding job. The one part that I feel lacks is the supervision of the children and lack of structure by the Principal at the public Junior High. I have visited many times and noticed that when the teachers were busy teaching their individual classes there would be a lot of students jumping off of the roofs and trees and just doing things that I felt were dangerous and no one was supervising them. When I brought this to the Principal's attention, he simply ignored me.
9. Cual es tu punta de vista de la educacion publica en Sayulita? Yo soy un defensor de la educación pública aquí en Sayulita. Creo que los maestros hacen un buen trabajo. La parte que yo creo que no esta bien es la falta de supervisión de los muchachos y la falta de estructura por parte del director de la secundaria. He visitado varias veces la escuela y he notado que cuando los maestros están ocupados con sus clases, a veces hay muchos estudiantes brincando en los techos y en los árboles y haciendo cosas que creo que son peligrosas y nadie esta ahí para supervisarlos. Cuando le dije esto al director de la secundaria, simplemente me ignoro.
10. What is something you would like to see changed in Sayulita? I would like to see the continuation of new streets being installed and also a serious restriction on the size and weight of large trucks that come through the village. I think this is a major factor for the poor road condition and even with new ones being put in, I feel that these trucks will eventually ruin those as well.
10. Que es algo que te gustaria ver que cambiara en Sayulita? Me gustaría ver que continuaran con la renovación de las calles y también una restricción seria en cuanto al tamaño y peso de los camiones que entran en nuestro pueblo. Creo que es un factor muy grande para los caminos que tenemos e incluso con las calles nuevas creo que estos camiones las van a echar a perder.
11. What are your future plans? I own two lots in Sayulita, one is a block from the beach and the other is out past Om Yoga in the Mangal area of town. I would like to eventually build apartments and bungalows at both locations for both visitors and residents alike.
11. Cuales son tus planes a futuro? Tengo dos lotes en Sayulita, uno de ellos esta a una cuadra de la playa, el otro esta pasando Om Yoga en el Mangal. Me gustaría construir unos apartamentos y bungalos en ambos lotes para los visitantes y residentes.
