Chacala, just north of the surf town Sayulita, is a quaint little fishing village and one of the best kept secrets of the Riviera Nayarit. Step on to the fabulous, clean beach in this protected bay for walking, boogie boarding, and surfing. The local boys have a rental shop for both surf and stand up paddle boards, and also are host to some fabulous pizza, at Surfer's Pizza. You can walk along the one cobblestone road in "downtown" Chacala, and enjoy some fresh, local seafood, such as the very famous Zarandeado grilled fish, fresh shrimp, dorado (Mahi Mahi), and more at the casual, palapa styled restaurants in Chacala. The local market carries fresh fish, beer, milk, fruits and vegetables, making your stay easy and affordable. This is a much different feel than the hustle and action packed Sayulita. If you find yourself in the market for the tranquility while still enjoying surfing, as well as having access to bars and restaurants, then Chacala is definitely worth a visit!
If you are interested in advanced surfing, a short panga (small fishing boat) ride around the corner will take you to the famous "La Caleta", WAVES….at anytime of the day…surfers will tell you this is some of the BEST surfing you will find on the Riviera Nayarit. This is unique location, and some days you will find the waves are as long as a football field! There are a lot of great activities to experience during your stay in Chacala. Visit the petroglyphs, fishing from the point, surfing near the breaks, snorkeling in local reefs, and the best, is the whale watching. You can also hike up to the volcano crater, or take ATV's to the back country.
