The Starboard Sayulita SUP OPEN 2025 has officially arrived in Sayulita, Mexico, happening on March 1st and 2nd!
The Starboard Sayulita SUP OPEN brings together the best athletes and rising stars in SUP Surf, Long Distance, and Technical races, all in the vibrant surf town of Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico. This event is a true celebration of Sayulita’s surf and paddleboard culture, honoring the Punta Sayulita Classic and the SUP ISA World Championships. It’s an inclusive occasion where children, families, and weekend warriors come together to meet the pros and get inspired to pursue careers in the sport. We’re here to share our love for surf and paddle culture with the world, starting right here in Sayulita – and we want you to be part of it!
Sayulita will host the annual Starboard Sayulita SUP Open, a premier international stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) event, on March 1 & 2, 2025. This two-day celebration will feature an impressive lineup of SUP racing and SUP surfing talent from around the world, alongside community-focused activities that showcase the unique charm and energy of Sayulita.
The Starboard Sayulita SUP Open, presented by MexHome, supported by Pro Sayulita, Turismo de Bahia de Banderas, and the Sayulita Surf Club, will also fund important local initiatives. Proceeds from the event will benefit the garbage collection, recycling programs, and other community efforts led by Pro Sayulita, a non-profit based in Sayulita.
Last year, the event gained widespread exposure on ESPN’s The Ocho, with a globally broadcasted 30-minute feature. A replay of the show is available on Pro Sayulita’s YouTube channel.
Past events have seen some of the biggest names in the sport:
- Lucia Coseleto (Argentina): 2-time ISA World SUP Surfing Champion.
- Connor Baxter (Hawaii): 2-time Pan American Games Gold Medalist.
- Max Torres (Puerto Rico): ISA World SUP Surfing Champion.
- Sofia Finer (Mexico): Local standout who placed 4th in the Pan American Games SUP Race and was the only athlete to compete in both SUP divisions.
The 2025 event will bring exciting new additions to the planning and management team. Anthony Vela, a Strategic Consultant to the International Surf Association (ISA) and industry veteran, will serve as Race Director, while renowned announcer Dreu Murin returns for his third consecutive year as the event’s official voice. Adam Finer and the Surf Mexico team are bringing back the thrilling Starboard Starship Championship, promising dynamic participation and fun races for all ages. Sayulita’s own Fernando Stalla, a local legend, rounds out the team, adding even more depth and expertise to this world-class competition.
