They also provide exciting seasonal camps for an unforgettable experience.Fabiola graciously caught up with us and shared some valuable insights about her thriving business.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
My name is Fabiola, but everyone knows me as Fabi. I’m 36 years old and I come from Santiago, Chile. I am a trained Waldorf teacher, but I consider myself a nanny at heart. Over the years, I have worked tirelessly to professionalize and give value to the service we provide to the many families who visit us. I arrived in San Pancho seven years ago, but I spent a year living in Sayulita for work reasons. I would describe myself as immensely creative, charismatic, friendly, and generous. I believe that a large part of the success of my business is attributed to my personality and communication skills.
- How did you end up in Sayulita?
After almost two years of traveling through Latin America with a friend, we arrived in Chiapas. There, I met some brothers who were traveling by bicycle and had passed through San Pancho and Sayulita. They recommended that we visit because of the great waves and because it was the perfect place for me, given my work with children. So, I found myself drawn to surf and work in my passion.
- How long have you lived in the Sayulita area? What is your favorite part?
I have been in the area for seven years. When I lived in Sayulita, I enjoyed spending time on the north side of the beach and taking a walk to Mal Paso beach. I would also enjoy going out to dinner, there are so many great places to eat. As for San Pancho, I absolutely love spending days at the beach club, watching the sunsets and enjoying drinks at any of the beachfront restaurants.
- Can you tell me about what inspired you to start your business?
I have always enjoyed working with children. In Chile, I had my own school for a few years, but I closed it in order to focus on my other passion, which is traveling. I think my own future self is my inspiration. I hope to become a mother someday, and I want someone to care for my children with the same love and dedication that I have shown to all the families I have worked with over the years. Starting Kiddo is a way for me to replicate my essence and experience and create a family that embodies these values. After several years working as a nanny for various families in the town, I realized the need to professionalize the field, share my knowledge with the new generation, and advocate for our interests and rights.
- What services do you offer?
We offer long-term nannies, babysitters, three seasonal camps per year, baby gear rentals, and kids’ party planning since 2019.
- Tell me a bit about your background in this industry
As I mentioned before, I had a school in Chile for five years, and during my university days, I also ran a children’s event agency. I have always been connected to the world of children. My first nanny job was when I was 12 years old, taking care of a friend’s baby. Since then, I have never stopped working with children, whether as a volunteer for an NGO, a teacher, a nanny, a yoga instructor, a family support provider, or a party entertainer. I believe that throughout the years, of working as a nanny and getting to know different families from different countries with diverse cultures and parenting styles, I have gained a broader understanding of the needs of tourists when they visit us, as well as the needs of the nannies themselves. This allows me to strike a good balance between the two worlds because, at the end of the day, we are a team—families, and nannies—with the same goal of providing enjoyable and fun experiences for the little ones, all under high standards of quality and Safety.
- What are your future plans for your business? Any new goals?
I have several plans for the future. The first one is to expand our camp scholarship program to reach more families in San Pancho, Sayulita, and the surrounding areas. For this, we need more sponsors. The social aspect is very important to me, as we donate 10% of our earnings to the community. That’s why it’s important for us to grow because the more clients we have, the more children we can help. I am also in the process of opening our office soon, which makes me very happy as it will allow us to reach more families and introduce them to my work and my team. Additionally, I am working on creating a guide listing all the professionals and activities for children within the town. Within a year, I hope to expand to other locations in Mexico and, who knows, maybe even internationally. Kiddo is more than an agency; it is a support network for visiting families and a community.
- Can you share a happy memory with a client?
I have many fond and funny memories with numerous children. It would be impossible to choose just one. However, I think the most impactful memory is with the family I currently work for. We have been together since 2018, and they have given me the wonderful opportunity to be part of their family and grow together throughout all these years. I have no words to express my gratitude for everything they have done for me over such a long time.
- Is there anything special that you would like to share?
Last year, Kiddo organized the first free Halloween Carnival in San Pancho. We managed to gather more than 100 children and families who came to play and have a great time. We even had a haunted house! This year, we are working on the second edition of the event, but we need more volunteers and donations.
