Have you heard? there’s a new wine bar in town! Sur 38 has quickly become the go-to spot for anyone looking for a casual glass of wine and catch-up with friends or a light tapas dinner paired with thoughtful wines. If that sounds like your kind of vibe, then this is the place for you!
Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
Aaron Osvaldo Lopez Chrisosto Born and raised in Puerto Vallarta, I moved to Sayulita 4 years ago to start the Casa Makawe hotel project. I already had the idea of keeping the space below the hotel open so I could create something in the future, and this year I finally made it happen by launching Sur 38 with my business partner and general manager Yasmin Alejandra Lopez Rodriguez who is originally from Guadalajara but has spent most of her life in Puerto Vallarta. My original plan was to build Casa Makawe and continue living in Puerto Vallarta but I fell in love with Sayulita and its community, and here we are!
How did you land in Sayulita?
I came to Sayulita with the plans of opening my hotel, Casa Makawe.
How long have you lived in Sayulita?
4 years
What is your favorite part?
I love the sunsets here, they are just magical! There’s nothing better than strolling down to the beach at golden hour (maybe even with a glass of wine in hand) and witnessing the sun go down. I also love salsa! I’ll often head to Don Pedros or Selina for Salsa night.
Can you tell me about what inspired you to start your business?
I love traveling, but it’s always been a challenge for me to find a wine bar that would be casual and laid-back, without being too upscale or pretentious. I would constantly be on the search for a somewhere that had a cool and relaxed atmosphere, while still providing a sophisticated experience. This is something that I have worked really hard on creating at Sur 38.
What services do you offer?
Wine bar, tapas, and cocktails with pairing experiences.
Tell me a bit about your background in this industry?
This is my first bar business, I’m just a wine lover!
How long has your business been in operation?
Sur 38 has been open since the 1st of April, and Casa Makawe has been open for 2 years now.
What does your business offer that separates it from the rest?
At Sur 38, we take pride in our cool and laid-back atmosphere, where you can come and enjoy a casual yet sophisticated experience.
What are your future plans for your business? Any new goals?
The business is fairly new and so we are just starting out, I hope it continues to grow and be successful, I do have the plan to serve breakfast and lunch at some point in the future but for now, I’m just enjoying seeing Sur 38 open and running.
Can you share a happy memory with a client?
Our diverse clientele enjoys exploring our wide variety of wines from all over the world, which often reminds them of home or offers a chance to try something new and different. They appreciate the unique offerings and are always grateful for the opportunity to expand their palate.
Is there anything special that you want to share?
We’ve put a lot of time and effort into Sur 38, and we’re thrilled to see it open and welcoming new faces. We invite you to come and enjoy everything we have to offer and have some fun with us!
