Our incredible family adventure to build a special place in Sayulita, Mexico actually began on August 17, 2016. It was on this day that we had the good fortune of having Architect Raul Velazquez respond to one of seven inquiries and follow-up “interviews” I conducted to find the right person with the professional skills and creativity we were looking for. Raul responded within an hour…vital…considering the importance of timely communication when you’re 1,000 miles away! After talking directly with several references he provided, it was clear that Raul’s professional reputation stood well above that of his competition. More important, his previous clients believe in him and the fantastic work that he does.

Building a home in Mexico is a rather daunting task…but not if you have someone as trustworthy and talented as Raul leading the project. The quick story is that after listening closely to our rather specific needs, Raul and his people started our design project immediately began construction in January 2017, and finished our beautiful home in November…on budget…three weeks early. We could stop there, right? Not if you consider some of the most important factors like meeting US/Canada standards when it comes to things like plumbing, electrical, building material selection, and overall workmanship. No one puts these things together like Raul and his people at RVO Studio.

My wife and I recently completed a complete renovation and modernization of a 6500 sq ft home in the Sayulita area. Working with Raul was a very positive experience. Raul Velasquez was our architect for our custom home in North Carolina. He went above and beyond what was asked of him and always delivered fantastic results. He really listened to what we wanted and his patience is limitless. One of the things I would like to highlight is that he worked with us via Skype on the entire project. The design of Villa Nido Nansal and its implementation were embraced by Mister Velazquez and his team. The site, scale and contemporary design of the project were all challenging, yet at every stage we were guided professionally through the process.

Since I live in San Francisco Raul and his team managed all aspects of permitting and construction. Their thorough documentation, budget tracking, photos and video feed from the webcam they installed kept me well informed of all developments.

We had an absolutely amazing experience with Raul Velazquez and his entire team. Raul designs, builds, oversees the construction, and manages the accounting with his very talented team. He built our dream house, Villa Yerbabuena in Sayulita, and succeeded beyond our expectations. From the moment we met Raul we knew he was our man, it immediately clicked between us, which was key to us because we were not just looking for talent, ideas, and capability but also trust.
We are builders ourselves. In addition, we already had built a home in Sayulita and therefore thought we knew what to expect and were prepared. The fact of the matter is that the construction of Villa Yerbabuena was nothing at all what we had expected or were prepared for. It was smooth, we stayed on budget, within our time-frame, the communication was exceptional; Raul kept us up-to-date with e-mails, Skype, photographs, the accounting was flawless (I am a CFO), any problems, which must have come up, were addressed and taken care of without us having to worry about it, and the creativity and eye for detail were astounding. Raul definitely has his own style. We love the fact that he uses old salvaged materials such as wooden beams, cantera stones, old doors, … He combines the old with the new. We wanted the old but at the same time keep the design of our house traditional and not too modern. Raul listened, understood, and built what was in our heads for 10+ years.
We highly recommend Raul and his entire team and will hire him again without hesitation for any other future building project.

Villa Yerbabuena, Sayulita

We purchased property in Chacala, Nayarit and had the good fortune to choose Raul Velazquez as our architect (loving the hacienda style! yet we needed modern/ beach style incorporated too) & worked via internet from our California home with Raul over an 8 mos period and thus built an incredible home which is known as Villa Cascada de Flores. We are listed on Chacala's VRBO site and everyone who has visited our home exclaims first and foremost about the Villa's design and WOW factor. Raul is great to work with, both generous to a fault and extremely talented. We hope to enlist his professional help in a future project we have in mind.

We found Raul after admiring a home he built in Sayulita. We immediately felt a connection with him after meeting and talking and began plans to build a home on a lot we had bought in Sayulita. Through the year long process Raul became more than our architect and contractor, he became a very dear friend. We wanted a moroccan style home with exquisite detailing and it turned out even better than we imagined. We now have plans to build a second home in sayulita with Raul. I would not even think of hiring someone else.
