Prior to beginning his career as a DJ, he attended music school and played the bass in several different bands in the United States. Upon moving to Canada, he discovered the electronic music scene, and gave up his bass for turn tables. “A DJ creates a vibe by himself. One person can move the whole room if the music is good,” shared DJ Paladub.
His DJ name, Paladub, came from the first part of his last name, Pala, and adding dub, which is a type of reggae music he likes. DJ Paladub plays a variety of music, other than dub, including latin, salsa, cumbia, hip hop, pop, top 40’s, oldies, and 80’s. Pretty much any type of music someone is looking for, he has. “The most challenging event that I DJ’ed was one where the client requested just 50’s and 60’s music, but no hip hop.”
DJ Paladub has a passion for his work, exclaiming, “I get to know so many people. You never know who you’re going to meet. I like to see people enjoying themselves, laughing, and having a good time.” He also knows how to read a crowd, saying, “Being able to read the crowd is one of the secrets of being a good DJ. It is important to notice their age and what type of music they might like.” However, he also finds it vital to communicate with the party host to determine what type of music they want to hear.
DJ Paladub has DJ’ed a variety of events, including the Costa Verde International School’s annual fundraiser and Festival Sayulita’s surf contest. He regularly DJ’s at weddings and works closely with Don Pedro’s, Sayulita Dream Weddings, Sayulita Mexico Weddings by Karen Ruezga, and Sunset Soiree. You can also hear him at Don Pato’s on Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as Yambak and Camaron on occasion.
