Last weekend Sayulita's town judge, Noe Placencia, along with others in the community, began a street-sweep and clean-up along Calle Revolucion from the secondary school down to Rollie's restaurant. The street-sweeping machine was purchased by Noe, who also rents out heavy machinery as a business.  Noe says that "all the cobblestone streets in Sayulita will be cleaned and swept so that dust and dirt is reduced and so that people don't have to water the cobblestone streets in front of their businesses and homes and waste town water." The rest of the stone streets will be cleaned by February 24th in time for the Sayulita Days Festival.

6. Employment/business history: I started working when I was very young at the age of 10 because I really wanted to have a job. I worked for Mr. Santos Virgen who had a grocery store at that time on the corner where my boutique currently is located and where my husband Abel has his real estate office. The store was the main store in Sayulita then and I helped stock shelves. My next job was during summer vacations from school, at a ranch in Patzcuarito. There, I used to take care of the children and do other jobs around the ranch. Later on I had the opportunity to stay with a family in the United States where I lived for a year and half. It was a great experience for me and the American family treated me so well and welcomed me into their family. Once I returned to Sayulita I worked for 10 years as the Ejido secretary. I left that job once I was married and expecting my first child. I then used to sell clothes from my home until 6 years ago when I opened the boutique clothing store beside Avalos realty.

7.  One positive change you have seen in Sayulita?. The new stone streets, the recycling team and how people are taking better care of the town are positive changes and I think it's interesting to see the town change in such a positive way.

8.  One negative change you have seen in Sayulita? There are always new faces you see in town now and not everyone can be trusted. Drugs and crime have become more of a problem and there have been more big parties and raves going on in the area which brings problems and drugs to the young people in town.

9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I would like Sayulita to stay small but if it must get bigger then I hope it doesn't become a big city with big buildings and lose it's charm and innocence. I am worried that the new entrance way they are building doesn't contribute to the loss of the small town charm. I think it could be the beginning of many changes to come in the future.

10. Do you have a recommendation for the people of Sayulita? Whether people want to or don't want to depend on tourism in Sayulita, the reality of the situation is that ALL of Sayulita need tourism to maintain the level of livelihood we have become accustomed to. Not only people directly involved in the tourism industry, but business owners, restaurant owners and everybody in town depends on the tourism and we all need to take care of our tourists and treat them well. Tourism affects everyone in Sayulita now and it's important everyone takes care of our visitors.
