Partner Seen in Sayulita

Have you seen the headlines lately? Or better yet, have you seen this guy around Sayulita? You probably will not be seeing him any more. NBC's Dateline, ABC, and the UK's Daily Mail have all ran stories last week about how Patrick McDermott staged his own disappearance and then fled south of the border. It turns out this guy has been hanging out in the shadows of Sayulita and in the back corners of our restaurants. Read for yourself at the following links.

¿Ha visto recientemente los titulares? O mejor aún, ¿has visto este tipo alrededor de Sayulita? Usted probablemente no será verlo nunca más. NBC, ABC, y el Daily Mail del UK tienen todos historias corrió la semana pasada acerca de cómo Patrick McDermott organizaron su propia desaparición y luego huyeron hacia el sur de la frontera. Sayulita in the Press;
again and again.

Sayulita's Villa Amor was featured on the cover of the February issue of Sunset Magazine. The featured article "20 Hidden Getaways" mentions Villa Amor, among others, as one of the best, low cost, luxury escapes.

The News Tribune newspaper out of Seattle, WA also ran a great story on Sayulita. It really highlights many of the reasons we love to live and vacation here in this great town.

Villa Amor fue en la portada de la edición de febrero de la revista Sunset Magazine. El destacado del artículo "20 Hidden Getaways" menciona Villa Amor, entre otros, como uno de los mejores, de bajo coste, el lujo se escapa. El periódico The News Tribune de Seattle, WA también realizó una gran historia de Sayulita. Realmente pone de manifiesto muchas de las razones por las que les encanta vivir aquí y de vacaciones en esta gran ciudad.

Art Display/Fundraiser at
Tropical House Restaurant.

On Wednesday evening, January 28th, there was a special fund raiser and art exposition at the Tropical House Restaurant located on the north side of Sayulita. Molly Arms, who hosted and organized the event, had a variety of paintings on display for purchase. Many of the paintings and some of the most popular were done with henna ink and then glazed over. Molly Arms who uses the all natural henna ink as body art, has made beautiful designs now on canvas art pieces. A percentage of the art work sold is going towards funding for the local primary public and private schools in Sayulita. The paintings will remain on display at the Tropical House for the next two weeks and then they will be moved to the newly opened book store. Molly Arms said she'd like to continue having art expositions and donating to a good cause.

El miércoles por la noche, el 28 de enero hubo una recaudación de fondos y exposición de arte en el restauranteTropical House por el lado norte del pueblo. Molly Arms quien organizo el evento tenía en exposición una variedad de pinturas para vender. Muchas de las pinturas y unas de las mas populares eran hechas con tinta henna y luego vidriadas encima. Molly quien suele usar la tinta natural de henna como una forma de arte para el cuerpo ahora ha hecho muchos diseños bonitos en un lienzo. Un porcentaje del las obras vendidas se invertirá en fondos para las escuelas primarias privadas y publicas en Sayulita. Las pinturas permanecerán en exposición por 2 semanas más en el restaurante Tropical House y luego se moverán a la librería nuevamente abierta. Molly Arms ha dicho que le gustaría continuar exponiendo obras de arte y donando a una buena causa.

2. Birthdate/age: March 24 1965, I am 43 years old.

3. Born in Sayulita? If not when did you first come to Sayulita? Yes I was born here in Sayulita. All of my family is from Sayulita too.
3. Nació en Sayulita? si naci aquí en Sayulita. Toda mi familia es de Sayulita también.

4. Education level: I studied primary school here in Sayulita, then secondary school in San Pancho because there still was no secondary school in Sayulita at that time. I didn't get the opportunity to study high school.
4. Nivel de educación: Estudie la primaria aquí en Sayulita, luego estudie la secundaria en San Pancho porque aun no había una secundaria en Sayulita en aquel tiempo. No tuve la oportunidad de estudiar la preparatoria.

5. Family history & information: I live with my husband Sabas and I have 4 children ages 23, 16, 5, and 2.

6. Employment/business history: When I was 17 years old, I went to live and work in Puerto Vallarta because there weren't many jobs here in Sayulita; at that time many people left the town to go work in Puerto Vallarta. At first I worked in a cold meat shop that served cold cuts and cheeses and then I was a cashier for a company who sold industrial equipment and merchandise. I decided I wanted to study aesthetics so I took a beauty culture course in Tepic. After completing my course I decided to come back to Sayulita where my family was and open my own salon where we do hair and nails. I've had the shop for 16 years, I was one of the first beauty salons in Sayulita.
6. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación: Cuando tenia 17 anos me fui a vivir y trabajar en Puerto Vallarta porque no había muchos trabajos en Sayulita, mucha gente se fue del pueblo para buscar trabajos en Puerto Vallarta. Al principio trabaje en una tienda de carnes frías donde servían carnes y quesos y luego trabaje como cajera para una compañía de ventas de equipos comerciales. Decidí estudiar estéticas, así que tome un curso de cultura de belleza en Tepic. Después de haber completado mi curso, querría regresar a Sayulita donde estaba toda mi familia y abrir mi propio salón de belleza donde hacemos cabello y unas. He tenido este negocio por 16 anos, era una de las primeras en abrir un salón de belleza en Sayulita.

7. One positive change you have seen in Sayulita?. There are more opportunities and jobs for everyone; especially for young people just getting out of school. Many people come to Sayulita now to look for work when years ago people would leave the town in search for jobs elsewhere. I think with all of the tourism that has come to Sayulita it has created a lot of positives for business owners and for the people of Sayulita. Also the town is taken better care of by the locals and the municipality who keep the streets clean and repaired.
7. Algún cambio positivo que haya observado en Sayulita? Hay mas oportunidades y trabajos para todos en especial para los jóvenes recién saliendo de la escuela. Muchos vienen a trabajar en Sayulita ahora y hace mucho anos la gente se iría del pueblo en busca de trabajos en otros lados. El turismo que hay en Sayulita ahora ha creado muchas cosas positivas para los dueños de negocios y para la gente de Sayulita. También se cuidan mas el pueblo para mantenerlo limpio y arreglan las calles.

8. One negative change you have seen in Sayulita? The town is becoming more and more populated and petty theft is on the rise. Store owners can't leave things in the streets anymore, not even a broom. People come from other cities and other places to live and work here and now you don't know everyone who is coming into town anymore.
8. Algún cambio negativo que haya observado en Sayulita? El pueblo es cada vez mas poblado y cada vez hay mas delitos. Dueños de las tiendas en el centro ya no pueden dejar sus cosas afuera, ni siquiera una escoba. No se sabe quien esta llegando al pueblo ahora que muchos vienen de afuera en busca de trabajos.

9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I imagine Sayulita is destined to grow and become more populated. I think along with the positives to seeing a town grow there will also be more negatives like theft and crime. I hope authorities can help to protect the town and keep it safe in the future.
9. Como imagina Sayulita en 10 anos? Me imagino que Sayulita se destina a crecer y ser mas poblado. Creo que con todos los positivos que vienen con el crecimiento de un pueblo también habrá mas negativos como robos y delincuencias. Espero que los autoridades pueden ayudar a proteger el pueblo y mantenerlo seguro.

10. Do you have a recommendation for the people of Sayulita? I recommend to everyone to take precautions if they live here or are just visiting. There have been more drownings in the ocean in the last few years and everyone needs to take care of themselves and their loved ones. Be it safety on the beach, in town or driving along the curvy highways at night.
10. Alguna recomanidación o comentario que quiera hacer a la gente de Sayulita? recomiendo a todos que se cuiden si viven aquí o solo vienen de visita. Ha habido mas ahogos en el mar los últimos anos y todos necesitan cuidarse y cuidar a sus seres queridos en la playa, en el pueblo o manejando por las carreteras con curvas por las noches.
