SayulitaLife’s Monthly $5,000 Donation Goes To: Los Jaibos de Sayulita!
Los Jaibos, Sayulita’s beloved baseball team, is more than a sport—it’s a vital part of the town’s history and culture. Led by their dedicated manager, Rogelio, Los Jaibos have built a legacy of excellence and community pride.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m originally from Sayulita. Sports are my passion, especially baseball. I’m 50 years old.
How did you get involved with the Los Jaibos team?
At 14 years old, I started playing with the Los Jaibos team from Sayulita. We played in the municipal league.
At 30 years old, I became the manager of the Jaibos team and was the first manager to lead the team in the state league (for the first two seasons). Due to personal commitments, I couldn’t continue in the following seasons. This year, I returned as manager at the request of several Jaibos players, with the hope of retiring with a state league championship in Nayarit baseball, with the Jaibos team.
Can you tell us a little about the history of Los Jaibos de Sayulita?
As far back as I can remember, the Jaibos team has been a very strong team in the area, winning about 80% of championships.
They had excellent players that I had the privilege of watching, such as Javier Jiménez, Rodrigo Peña, Carlos Mariscal (all from Sayulita), Jesús Meza (from Lo De Marcos, who always played with the Jaibos), Jesús Rodríguez, and Ramón Guerrero.
They were managed by Juan Guerrero.
Javier Jiménez also played in the Northwest League with the Pureros de Compostela, as I did.
Why do you think the team is important to the Sayulita community?
It’s part of Sayulita’s history because baseball has been played here for many years. It’s a passion of the town, where families come together. Nowadays, there are new generations in the small leagues, called the Jaibitos.
What will the donation from SayulitaLife be used for?
It will be used to purchase equipment for the team, like balls and wooden bats.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I’d like to invite everyone to the playoffs, which start this Friday, January 10, at the Jaibos’ home field, where we’ll host the Vaqueros de Rosamorada.
We’re excited to have qualified in second place during the regular season.
