Sayulita Life’s Featured Business: Casa Ventura & Ventura
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, my name is Mirian Ventura Esteban. I’m originally from the state of Guerrero, proudly from an Indigenous family! I grew up and lived in the mountains of Guerrero until I was 18 years old. My family has a small farm where, from a young age, I was taught how to grow different fruits, vegetables, and flowers. We also had bees, goats, donkeys, and horses. I grew up deeply connected to nature.
How did you first discover Sayulita?
I discovered Sayulita through a family member who has been living and working in the area for over 30 years. As some people know, the economy in Guerrero is very challenging, and work is scarce. When this family member would visit our town, they would always say, “You should come to Puerto Vallarta; there’s more work there, and it will be better for you.”
What about Sayulita made you move here?
I moved to Sayulita for work, and, well, I ended up falling in love with the sea and the town. Ten years have passed since then, and I’m still here.
How was Casa Ventura & Ventura born?
My sister and I had ideas about opening a shop where we could share a bit of where we come from and support the women in our town by showcasing the beautiful things their hands create—things they can make using just the earth. My sister had the idea of combining mezcal with flowers and ceramics. With both of our ideas, we created something that, when I look at it now, I think, “Wow, we really made this!” It was a dream for many years, and I didn’t know when it would come to life. We started right after the pandemic, which was a huge challenge, but here we are, four years later!
Tell us a little bit about your concept.
Our concept is based on blending ceramics with flowers for events of all kinds. We also work with unique designs—we love to explore, be different, and come up with new ideas for our clients. In our shop, you’ll find a variety of ceramics, different types of clay, and some carefully selected home decor items to complement your space.
Do you provide any additional services?
We offer floral crown workshops for any event. During Christmas, we host a holiday-themed workshop.
Anything else you would like to add?
Since I was a child, I always wanted to study interior design, but I never had the opportunity to do so. Now, when I look at what I do, I realize it might not be the same, but working with flowers and ceramics has taught me to create things I never imagined. It has taught me to make art, to see beauty where I didn’t see it before, and to appreciate the simplest things.
