Local Sayulita Youth to Compete at the Mexican National Surf Games in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca

Some of our local Sayulita surfers will soon be heading to compete in the Mexican National Surf Games in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, from October 28th, 2019, through November 10th, 2019. These young athletes have been training and competing for a long time in order to be ready for this amazing opportunity. The local non-profit organization Pro Sayulita generously stepped up to help the competitors, by giving a donation to the team to assist in covering some of the expenses of the tournament.

There are several of our local youth who will be competing in different categories. Osmar Guerrero, 17 years old, will be competing in the youth 18 & under division, as well as the open shortboard division. Brian Sandoval, 14 years old, will be competing in the 18 & under division, the 16 & under, along with the 14 & under shortboard division. Continuing, Ángel Tapia, 14 years old, is competing in the 16 & under division, and the 14 & under shortboard division. Jacob Perez is also competing in the 18 & under paddle board races. The youth’s coach, Geovani Pérez, is competing in the open longboard division, as well as the open stand up paddle surf, and open masters shortboard division. The competition is the Surf Nationals, which comes a few months after some of these same athletes participated in and won several categories at the National Olympic Surf Games, officially competing for the state of Nayarit, with surfing now a recognized and accredited Olympic sport by the state of Nayarit.

Pro Sayulita, a local non-profit organization whose mission is to support projects and oversee, assist, and help with initiatives to improve and help maintain the safety and regulation of our pueblo, stepped up and made a generous donation to the team in order to help them cover some of the expenses of the tournament, such as costs related to travel expenses, and money to purchase food / meals for the athletes during the two week competition. A big thank you to Pro Sayulita for their help!

Others who are interested in helping the team can do so by making a donation of any kind to their GoFundMe Page. We wish the best of luck to all of our Sayulita surfers competing in the National Games- we will all be cheering you on!
