Judy & Alex: “Why We Love Sayulita”- Stories From Readers
Alex and I, (Judy), live in a small village in Central Northern British Columbia, called Vanderhoof. Some years ago, I was looking for a yoga retreat and stumbled across the town of Sayulita. When I googled more about Sayulita, it seemed like a great place to go and visit. I decided instead of going on a retreat, I would invite my husband along and just take a few yoga classes, as Sayulita offered so many options with affordable drop-in rates. The more affordable prices meant we could afford to have my husband and brother come along. For our first visit, we stayed at Los Corales suites. It was a great space with amazing hosts. We enjoyed fishing, surfing, yoga, and of course the many restaurants, including the Mama Mia Pizza (which is no longer around). Because of how much we loved Sayulita after that first trip, the following year we loaded up our family and rented a house (Casa Suenos). With our 5 daughters, spouses and our first grand-child, we all enjoyed 10 wonderful days together experiencing Sayulita’s magic of beach massages, beaches, and making fun memories with our family.
After this second amazing trip, I felt there was no reason to leave this time! My family basically had to drag me out of Mexico by my hair, kicking and screaming. My husband and I returned again to Sayulita this past February, and once again we stayed at Los Corales, with David and Jeannette as our most gracious hosts. Once more, we enjoyed daily yoga classes, fishing, surfing, and massages on the beach.
I have heard that some groups have experienced some sickness while visiting sayulita, however, our only incident was definitely self-inflicted after a fun night out of singing and dancing, and perhaps a few too many tequila shots! Sayulita is a village full of happy, helpful, locals and tourists alike. We have stayed in Sayulita three times now, and have really fallen in love with the people, the yoga, the fishing with el Tigre charter, and the relaxing yet vibrant atmosphere. Of course the amazing food, and fresh seafood in particular is another thing we love about Sayulita. My husband and I can’t think of a single thing we don’t enjoy about this gorgeous pueblo. We are already planning our next visit, and can’t wait to return!
