Border Travel Restrictions May Be Extended Through August 21
The land border between the USA and Mexico has been closed to non-essential travelers for nearly 4 months now (since March 21) and Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that it has proposed extending restrictions until August 21. The restrictions do not apply to air travel.
The United States has yet to announce an extension of border restrictions; the decision lies in the hands of the CDC.
According to the most recent data available, the border states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas have a combined total of 764,996 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. On the south side of the border, the Mexican states of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas have a total of 55,083 cases.
On July 2nd, United States Ambassador Christopher Landau urged U.S. citizens to respect the restrictions and to stop crossing the border.
