15% of businesses have disregarded order to close; virus cases up 448
At the most recent health briefing, Hugo Lopez Gartell announced 50% of businesses closed immediately following government instruction, 17% closed after a warning from the government and 15% have continued to operate despite the government order. The remaining 18% of businesses are considered essential and are permitted to remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nayarit is one of the states with the largest number of companies that have not complied with the order to close. Other states include Jalisco, México state, Michoacán, Veracruz, Puebla, Mexico City, Baja California, Aguascalientes, Hidalgo and Guanajuato. All non-compliant companies will be shut down by authorities.
The number of cases have increased 84% in the week between April 8 and 15 while deaths surged 158% from 174 to 449. There are 11,717 suspected cases. Nayarit has fewer than 50 reported cases. Mexico’s overall fatality rate is 7.7 per 100 Covid-19 cases – the highest rate in Latin America, according to World Health Organization data.
