Pro Sayulita’s annual ranchero fundraiser, La Granja, takes place on the Rodriguez’ family ranch, a beautiful, spacious space that screams tranquility. Through the generous offering of their ranch for the event, as well as a donation of a spectacular buffet of truly mouthwatering favorites offered at their restaurant, Ruben’s Deli, this event is made possible each year. Ruben Rodriguez sits down with El Sayulero to share how and why he got involved with this fundraiser and so much more.

Why did you decide to get involved with Pro Sayulita?

I got involved to help with the necessities of the town. Pro Sayulita helps to keep the town clean, helps the local schools (they recently repaired bathrooms, helped with the landscaping, and replaced desks and chairs for the students), helps with traffic control (they are paying for the traffic wardens currently directing traffic), and helps local organizations, such as SayulitAnimals and Campamento Tortuguero. They also provide gasoline for the police in town and continue to work to find a solution for the issue with the sewer system.

What made you want to partner with Pro Sayulita for this fundraiser?

I met Jack Jones (Pro Sayulita president) and Janet Moeller (on the board of Pro Sayulita) and wanted to support Sayulita and give back as a business owner. I thought, “why don’t we make this event happen and you can keep doing what you’re doing and provide the needed support for the town”.

Why donate your ranch and all of the food for La Granja?

My family is really grateful to be one of the first families in Sayulita and we want to give back.

What type of food will you be serving this year?

We are serving baby back ribs, mahi mahi, chicken breasts, rice & beans, pastas, and salads.

How does it make you feel to help out the community of Sayulita in this way?

I like it – it makes me feel good. My wife, kids, and I have talked about giving back to the community and the importance of it. La Granja is a great way to show we can give back to the community of Sayulita.

How would you like to see other others help out?

I’d like to see them join us and become a member of Pro Sayulita.

Why do you suggest people purchase tickets for this event?

Because it will be a lot of fun, they will enjoy themselves, and they will be helping out Sayulita at the same time. The proceeds for this years event are going to help pay for traffic control, which is really important with the main entrance to town being closed during construction of the new boulevard.

Anything else you’d like to add?

My family and I love this town and love the opportunity to give back. I would ask that business owners (both foreigners and Mexicans) in Sayulita join us and help the community by giving back. As a member of Pro Sayulita, we had a meeting a couple of weeks back and we are asking that all businesses donate money to help pay for the control of traffic.

Editors Note: Tickets can be purcahsed at the Mercado del Pueblo, Ruben’s Deli, or from Pro Sayulita board members.
