Salvador "Javier" Barrera Adame
June 8, 1939 - June 2, 2005

On June 2, 2005, Sayulita lost its honorary beach mayor Salvador "Javier" Barrera Adame.

Javier had been commenting on his dizziness and headaches for quite some time. He passed away in the San Pancho hospital after being checked in earlier in the day.

Javier was a great man who genuinely cared about the village and beaches of Sayulita. He spent much of his own time and funds to organize litter patrols on Sayulita's main beach as well as Playa los Muertos. Javier was also instrumental in collecting returning sea turtle eggs and protecting them until hatching time. Many children, adults, locals, and tourists will never forget the nights when Javier invited everyone to participate in the "launching" of baby turtles back out to sea. His efforts will live on indefinitely.

Salvador Javier Barrera Adame, was the son of Julia Adame Banda and Martín Banda Valli. He was born in Jiménez, Chihuahua in 1939 and would have celebrated his 65th birthday on June 8. He is survived by his brother and sister Lorena and Oswaldo Barrera Adame, and his children Javier Arturo, Israel and Ámbar.
