Will you tell me more about your architectural background?
Well, I was born in Mexico City in 1964. I studied at the UNAM University. As a teenager, I was certainly not interested in architecture. Time went by and now I know I was blessed to decide on that. I built my first residence when I was 20.
How did you hear about Sayulita?
I have been living in the Banderas Bay area for 20 years, so all this area is well known to me.We have done projects, such as residences, condo buildings, commercial, remodeling, etc. in the areas of Sayulita, Litibú, San Pancho, Punta de Mita, Puerto Vallarta, etc.
Will you tell me about your design process?
I always try to team with my clients to build their dreams. Many architects seem to work for themselves. I cannot do that. I know how important each project is for my clients. They are going to live an important part of their lives there, so that is sacred to me. The main reason I moved from Mexico City to this area was an urgent need to be in contact with nature, so my inspiration comes from there, resulting into free-flowing forms, colors, textures…moods. It is important for me to create a dialogue with nature. One way to do this is by using color like an accent element, just as the surrounding mountains, which are mainly green or brownish. They always have some accent colors provided by those elegant Papelillos or those fantastic yellow Primaveras or the impressive colorful Buganvilias.
Do you have a general philosophy when it comes to your work?
I have a commitment to make people happy. I have found a way of doing this through the beauty and harmony of nature reflected in my projects. I use natural elements, lush gardens, ample terraces, and water features to sooth and add to the ambience, bringing the outdoors in…the harmonious balance of Yin and Yang spaces resulting in a beautiful place to live in.
What's your favorite part of what you do?
Realizing that each project has infinite possibilities. For me, a small remodeling project is just as important as a multimillion dollar residence. Each one has multiple variables to play with. It is fantastic! After that, the construction process itself is amazing. You will hardly believe how it is going to come out in the end. People pass by and say, “Hey, it is looking good.” But still, the final product always surprises them.
Why should someone in Sayulita hire you?
Designing is my passion and you will get a good reference from my clients. The people I work with are a great asset. I am building a house right now in Sayulita. People have come to me saying, “Where did you get your crew? This quality of construction and well organized construction site is not often seen in Sayulita.” In the end, my work is my best reference.
