Despite the hotter days, cloudy skies and heavy rains, summer season in Sayulita is becoming an even more popular vacation time for both nationals and foreigners. Couples spending their honeymoons, whole families, groups of friends; many different types of people are vacationing in this little town "I like to come here every time I have the chance, I leave the city and come here with my friends" says Luis, a 22 years old student, from Guadalajara, Jal. "This is the third summer we've spent here. We love the sun, the heat and the sea" said Kath and Bob from Colorado.
Summer Season Still Going Strong
By Patricia Duarte
El Espresso Café's owner Jessica says national and foreigner visitors to her restaurant have increased compared to last summer. Fabian, manager of LunaMar Bungalows, comments their summer occupancy rate is about the same as last year most likely due to the fact that the predominant percentage of their summer guests are already Mexican nationals as compared to foreigners.

Downtown Construction
By Colin Barnett
The buildings under construction at the beach end of Calle Pelicanos - along the town side of the river - are public banos and showers. After talking with the foreman, I have been told the street should be finished and open by this weekend. However, heavy trucks will not be allowed along it; only pedestrians, cyclists, and cars. The construction of a proper ramp built down to the river could not be confirmed.
Meanwhile Calle Gaviotas seems to be progressing ever so slowly since every time it is leveled off, a good gravel base laid, and it looks as if they are ready to pour the top layer of cement, someone comes along and digs it up to lay another pipeline - three times in the last two weeks by this author's count - but it is coming along.

7. One positive change you have seen in Sayulita? I have seen many changes here in Sayulita and lots of positive changes. The entrance way to Sayulita has been improved greatly with a wide paved roadway into town and the new high way going out to Punta De Mita. In respect to local pets and animals, I've seen more people taking better care of their pets and bringing them in to be vaccinated against diseases and bathed and groomed to prevent fleas and ticks.
8. One negative change you have seen in Sayulita. Many people have started arriving to Sayulita and the streets are becoming more crowded with traffic, the beach is much more crowded than other years before and there are more houses being built on the hill sides. With so many people arriving to town there is more pollution and garbage thrown down. Street dogs get into the garbage and become sick and contract such diseases like mange (scabbies.)
9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I imagine Sayulita will keep growing and more and more people will start arriving to Sayulita to work and live. There may be fewer jobs in time for so many people. I think tourism could drop in Sayulita due to how quickly it is growing and changing, and tourists may find other destinations along the coastline and other small quiet towns just being discovered.
10 Do you have a recommendation for the people of Sayulita? Yes, please bring in your dogs and cats to be spade and neutered. There are too many street dogs who don't have home. If a street dog has puppies in most cases those puppies will not even live through the first few months and if they do grow up and become dogs they are usually unwanted dogs without a home that carry diseases. It is important to get your dogs spade and neutered to prevent this happening in Sayulita.
11 Other notes and/or comments (anything you would like to share with our readers): I would like to mention that at the veterinary clinic we now have a blood test we can give your pet to determine hereditary diseases and help treat or prevent the illness. This is a great help in diagnosing an animal's sickness so they receive the proper medicine.
