Edgar Rodriguez, born in San Francisco, Nayarit Mexico (Also known as ''San Pancho'') Is a 3rd generation, self taught local Artist.
His introduction into the World of Art came through the influence of his Grandfather and Uncle both talented Artists. Edgar grew up admiring the drawings of landscapes, animals, and people which his uncle produced and translating the stories his grandfather portrayed in his elaborate Murals.
When Edgar was at about the age of 5 his Uncle had an accident and was unable to work for an extended amount of time. Edgar recalls rushing home from school each day to absorb and practice the artistic knowledge of his recuporating Uncle. When he wasn't enthralled in his Uncles work he spent his days spying through the Studio window of the neighbour and family friend, Henry Wanton Jones (Jimmy Jones). Being a shy child, he was to embarressed to ask out right for an invitation to come in so settled on sneaking over the wall of the house and studying the various tools and equipment, involved in the creations of Jimmy Jones, through the metal bars on the window. Years later, Edgar remembers fondly, Jimmy would offer gifts, such as oils and brushes, which were charished items for a young artist. So even at the young age of 5 it was obvious Edgar was destined to be an Artist, or so claim his former school teachers who praised the creative imigination they saw in Edgar.
While in his early teens Edgar came across some tubes of acrylic paint amoungst some boxes and quickly began experimenting with the new medium. At the time supplies were not available so he made do with what was. Most of his early paintings were done on scrap pieces of wood and bed boards. At this point Edgar saw his path and was determined to follow it.
Edgars fascination with paints and textures carried him on to working with oils. Though he had had to save up for some time, Edgar finally bought his first tubes of oil and could not deny the connection. His experimentation turned into producing enough work to fill his entire studio. Art was now an unquenchable passion in which nothing was restrained. Mixing mediums, textures and style, to the point that no label or generalization could be attached to the work.
At the age of 17 and the year of 1997, Edgar was introduced to Carmina Diaz, Owner of El Bendito Gallery in Puerto Vallarta. Seeing the talent and potential in the teen she took him on and gave him his first Solo Exibition. Within the first month of showing in the gallery, all but one of the thirtyfive peices had been sold. The unsold peice was given as a gift of recognition and apprecitation to Carmina of the faith and support she bestowed on him. Edgars was also commitioned to do several peices as a result of the exibition.
The succession of shows continued for Edgar after his first appearence in the industry with a Solo show at Galeria de Arte. Next was followed with a Solo Show at Kim Kaewood in Sayulita, a private show with Rod Ingram in Villa Amor as well as in Punta de Mita, also worked at Galeria Olinala, and finally at Galeria Uno which is where he continued to show for the following years.
Over the years Edgar has found inspiration through, and claimes that lifes moments push him into whatever context he is painting. Currently life has brought him a beautiful 9 year old son Brock and an excitement to teach him his world of color and Textures in hopes that one day his son too will have the opertunity to choose a life as an artist.
